Rockman Character Height Chart by TuxedoMoroboshi Rockman Character Height Chart by TuxedoMoroboshi
This isn't really meant to be a stellar art piece so much as it is a resource for creating other art pieces. I created this nifty height chart for the purpose of helping others with their own fanart.

This chart is pretty accurate, due to having created an accurate scaled-down ruler to put the characters on top of. The ruler is what you see in the background there. Each small red and blue square is an inch, and each long light gray and medium gray rectangle is a foot. Japanese source books state that Mega Man is 132cm tall and X is 160cm tall, so by converting that into feet and inches as best as I can, it means that Mega Man is 4'4" and X is 5'3". This is pretty accurately reflected on this chart.

Although I don't have the official measurements for anyone other than X and Mega Man (which were taken from the official "Rockman & Rockman X Daizukan" source book), I can assure you that the conjecture in this chart is pretty accurate as I've examined all the characters used here and compared many pictures in which they've appeared together (along with extensive studying of model sheets from the "Mega Man Official Complete Works" and "Mega Man X Official Complete Works" art books) to get the most accurate height chart possible.

The purpose of this height chart is for anyone who wants to make art of these characters and have their sizes be accurate. I dunno if I'm all that good at always keeping height consistency between characters in my art, I'll admit (I'm working on improving that), but hopefully this height chart may prove useful for me in the future, and to anyone else that does Mega Man fanart.

EDIT: Since people seem to keep asking what the heights are, I'll go ahead and list them down. As I said before, though, keep in mind that the measurements are only approximate with about a one inch margin of error, and that the chart was made by viewing heights compared between characters through various sources (sometimes made a little difficult when different official sources contradict each other, but I took that into account as much as I could and went with whatever official sources outnumbered the contradictions).

Mega Man - 4'4" (Official)
Dr. Light - 4'9"
Proto Man - 4'4"
Roll - 4'4"
Kalinka (child) - 4'4"
Bass - 4'4" (I'll admit I'm not completely sure about this one as there seems to be about as much official art that has him about two inches taller than Mega Man as there is official art that has him the same height)
Dr. Wily - 4'9"
X - 5'3" (Official)
Alia - 5'3"
Zero - 5'6"
Iris - 5'
Sigma - 7'5"
Volnutt - 5'1"
Roll Caskett - 5'1"
Tron Bonne - 5'1"

It's no wonder, since most of the characters are built in an image of 12(Rock) to 15(X) year-old, by Asian standard. (I was as tall as Iris when I was at that age.)

In Megaman Command Mission X is 1.65 cm and Zero has 1.75 cm

Already in the official version of keiji Inafune X has 1,60 cm and Zero has not yet been revealed, but I think that is 1,68 cm...

Well, as far as I know, Reploids don't grow, but I find that interesting that it lists X as being a centimeter taller. And an actual measurement for Zero, as well? Hmmm... that's quite fascinating. If you don't mind me asking, what's the name of this artbook? And does it list heights for any other characters?

The artbook is The Megaman X Official Complete Works released by Udon a few years ago. Ferham's height was listed as 175 cm (5'9) by the artists and noted as "Her Height is 175 cm, Similar To Zero" on the pic. By the Command Mission era, X's design is listed at 165cm (5'5), so the other Command Mission characters could probably be extrapolated from there (the girls save for Ferham seem to be about as tall or shorter than X). X, Zero, and Axl's heights are similar to Alia, Layer's, and Palette's. Layer's height advantage over Alia (and X by default) can be seen in one of the pics where they showed X's height relative to the other characters of the game.

I hadn't even noticed that any measurements were actually given; I'm not sure how I missed that. If it's not too much trouble, could you give me the page where they list the measurement for X's height?

Though... it does make sense that X's height would be different (even if only by a tiny bit) in Command Mission, since he had a completely different body/armor in that game.

The page is 137. You'll see Feram with X to the right of her, and their heights will be mentioned in notes.

Wow, ya, there it is. I think I only missed it because the text is so small. :XD:

Hmmm, I wonder if the one centimeter difference was an oversight, or if it was on purpose to reflect the fact that X has a totally different look in Command Mission (which might mean his new armor adds that extra centimeter in height).

Whatever the case, thank you for sharing this with me. I found it to be pretty interesting to note.

Maybe he did grow after all, since the Command Mission armor seems to be a permanent modification. What I don't get is where Alia is taller than X and Zero in that X-X6 Album Cover, since we've seen by X5 how their heights were relative to each other in the command center.

Ya, I don't understand that album cover, either. Capcom is... pretty weird sometimes. As I said, though, I tried to go with whatever had more evidence in its favor, and I've seen more stuff with Alia being around the same height as X than I have of her being taller (that album cover in question being the only example I've seen so far of that). In fact, the OCW book that you were talking to me about even shows how tall Alia is supposed to be in relation to X.

One thing to keep in mind, though, is that all this official stuff is not all drawn by one artist. Capcom has many different artists, and when that happens, there's bound to be occasional discrepancies, unfortunately. And that's really the only explanation I can give as to why that album cover is the way it is.

Your margin on the cm-to-inch conversion is slightly off, I believe. 160cm * (1in/2.54cm) equals 62.9921 inches (rounding off to four digits, anyway). In other words, your only justification to rounding below 5'3" is if you're claiming a level of accuracy greater than one thousandth of an inch. Either way, FAR closer to 5'3" than 5'2-1/2"

Likewise, Rock is basically 4'4" (specifically, 51.9685")

Zero is usually about half a head taller than X. Going by X4 character art notes (MMXOCW page 110; also call this personal bias if you must but Sensei's art style always struck me as the most faithful to the characters), X is about 4-1/2 "heads" high in terms of his body proportions, and Zero is 5. That puts Zero's approximate height at 1/9 greater than X's, or 5'10". Although, it seems like a lot of the more recent games are ignoring the height difference between X and Zero (most infamously X8; where X actually appears taller because he stands up straight).

Regardless, I'm thinking the "average height" in Japan is a bit shorter than it is in other corners of the world... X just doesn't "look" like he's 5'3" when he's seen in games that have random NPC characters, most notably Command Mission.

Ya, metric conversion is kind of tricky, and I'll admit that I've never been any good at translating decimal heights to feet and inches. Considering my horrible math skills, though, I consider a half-inch margin of error a victory. :P

Still, I'm not completely sure about Zero being 5'10"... but then again, Capcom in general is pretty horrible at keeping consistency. One thing I've noticed is that in Tatsunoko vs. Capcom, Zero (if you get his to stand up straight) comes pretty close to Ryu's height (and Ryu is officially stated as being 5'10"), though he's still slightly shorter. I actually felt this was probably a very accurate depiction of his height, but I'm also wondering if he really does come that close to 5'10" since Ryu's never standing up straight, either.

That being said, Zero was then later made MUCH shorter in Marvel vs. Capcom 3, when he was made to be around Wolverine's height (and Wolverine is officially 5'3"). This didn't sit right with me at all, and it shows me that Capcom doesn't always care about consistency. Plus I've always scratched my head as to why Mega Man and Roll had almost a whole foot of height difference in Marvel vs. Capcom, when almost every other source ever seems to show them as being the same height. And I realize these aren't Mega Man games, but like you said, there's examples of height inconsistency in Mega Man games, as well. In general, I think it's just Capcom's left hand not knowing what its right hand is doing.

I dunno, maybe at the end of the day, my efforts were fruitless, since different Capcom artists interpret the characters in different ways. While I did try to come up with a chart that shows the most recurring size differences, it's really more of a general rule of thumb than anything too strict, since Capcom itself doesn't care for consistency (and that's not just in height, either, as I noticed that in the X4 cutscenes, X and Zero's eye colors switched places, though they're correct in the actual artwork for the game).

And ya, average height in Japan does tend to be shorter than places like the United States. Globally, it's not much further down than most of the world, but people of European descent tend to have a higher number of tall people than people of of Asian descent. Being of the latter group myself, I can definitely say that I've noticed evidence of this. And not to get too off-topic, but I always find it kinda funny that a lot of people make fanart of Superman and Goku fighting, and they always make them the same height, but that's actually highly inaccurate. Goku's official height as a fully grown adult is about 5'7" (I think? My metric conversion could be off and I'm calculating that one a bit quick and dirty, but his measurement is officially stated as being 175cm), while Superman's official height is 6'4". They're definitely not the same height at all.

Anywho, thanks for the comments. I'm gonna take your word on the metric conversion and adjust the measurements accordingly. I don't think I'll need to change the image itself, though, since half an inch is tricky to see on the chart, anyway, but I'll definitely change the numbers in the description around.

I don't see why people would think Bass is taller than classic megaman and protoman, those fin thingies make him look taller, but they also don't count.

Also are the classic characters really all shorter than the rest?

Yep. And the heights for Mega Man and Mega Man X (those two specific characters, I mean, not everyone from their series) are also officially confirmed by Capcom.

But, ya, I never got why so many people assumed Bass is taller, outside of the illusion given by his helmet. When comparing official art where the two are side by side, it's plain as day that they're the same height.

Huh? They're the same height. I didn't make either shorter than the other. Rock, Roll, Proto Man, Bass, and Kalinka are all the same height. If there's anything making anyone look taller or shorter than anyone else, then it's purely an optical illusion. If you check the measurements on the chart's ruler, though, they're all the same height.

And since I mentioned Kalinka, I should note that this is the Kalinka from Mega Man 4. I know she's recently been revealed to have aged a few years, so she's likely, currently taller than she used to be.
